The Atlantic Coast city of Stuart, known as the “Sailfish Capital of the World,” is located along Florida’s renowned Treasure Coast, north of Palm Beach and south of Vero Beach. Along with fishing and other water-intensive pleasures, Stuart is famed for its historic and pedestrian-friendly downtown. The Stuart Green Market is held every Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. near City Hall. The Stuart Heritage Museum and Road to Victory Military Museum are not to be missed. With a fine assortment of accommodations, dining options, and recreational opportunities, Stuart is a great place for your vacation. However, as a word of caution, while we list France as one of the best places to take kids in Europe, I didn’t find their culture welcoming to babies and toddlers (find our post with helpful tips on visiting France with a baby here).

These are some of my favorite weekend getaways from San Diego but there are most certainly more so leave a comment with your favorite getaway destination! I had better luck finding accommodations in Key West where I compromised on amenities. One of the great charms of Key West is the historic bed and breakfasts in Old Town.  Most go for $300 to $400 a night. But there are a few quality places where several bedrooms share a common bathroom, and the savings are great. Explore more weekend hotel deals in the Grand Canyon. Smallin Civil War CaveWith its super-wide mouth, Smallin Civil War Cave has one of the prettiest entrances around. Make sure you visit after a rain, so you can see a stream trickling over the rocks and out of the mouth of the cave. A guided tour filled with information about the area’s indigenous people and the cave’s history takes visitors along a boardwalk for an easy and flat trek.
