Although considered to be safe in moderate dosages, Yashtimadhu can have side effects when taken in very large doses or over an extended period of time. Glycyrrhizin might cause high blood pressure, decreased potassium, water-retention or headaches when ingested in large quantities. It must not be used by people with hypertension or kidney problems or pregnant women except with a recommendation of an Ayurvedic practitioner. It is no exception that it is better not to confuse Mulethi with some drugs and particularly those that are diuretics or blood pressure medications without medical consultation.
