Hey all! I wanted to get some input from people who use their vehicles as daily drivers like I do. I own a 2022 Ford Explorer that I use for literally everything – commuting to work, running errands, taking the kids to school, weekend road trips, you name it. This SUV sees constant action, and it’s starting to show.
The problem with daily driven vehicles is that they accumulate wear and tear so much faster than garage queens or weekend cars. My Explorer has coffee stains in the cup holders, the floor mats are constantly dirty from shoes, the door sills get scuffed every time someone gets in or out, and the exterior picks up dust and grime daily from driving in traffic.
I’ve been doing regular car washes, but it’s not enough anymore. The paint has developed a dull look from constant exposure to the elements, there are small scratches and swirls from all the washing, and the interior just feels tired despite my efforts to keep it clean.
I started looking into getting proper detailing done, but I wanted to find someone who understands that this isn’t a show car. It’s a practical family vehicle that’s going to get dirty again. I needed Ford car detailing for daily driven vehicles that focused on restoration and protection rather than just making it look pretty for a week.
I found a detailing shop that specifically caters to people in my situation, and their approach made a lot of sense. They explained that for daily drivers, the focus should be on durable protection and ease of maintenance rather than just aesthetics.
For the exterior, they did a full wash and decontamination, then applied a paint sealant that’s designed to last several months and make regular washing easier. They also treated all the plastic trim and rubber seals to prevent fading and cracking. The wheels got a thorough cleaning and a coating that’s supposed to repel brake dust.
Inside, they deep cleaned everything but also applied protective treatments. The seats got shampooed and then treated with a fabric protector to resist future stains. The dashboard and door panels were cleaned and protected against UV damage. They even applied a protective coating to the floor mats so dirt and mud would be easier to clean off.
What I appreciated most was their realistic approach. They didn’t try to sell me expensive ceramic coatings or services I didn’t need. They focused on making the car look great while also making my life easier for ongoing maintenance.
It’s been about three weeks since the detailing, and I’m impressed with how well it’s holding up. The car still looks clean even after daily use, and washing it is definitely easier now. Dirt doesn’t stick as much, and water beads off nicely.
For anyone else with a daily driver, I think this kind of practical detailing approach makes way more sense than trying to maintain show car standards. Our vehicles are tools we use every day, and the detailing should reflect that reality.
What do you all do to maintain your daily drivers? Any tips for keeping them looking decent between professional detailing sessions?
